Cadillac Asphalt LLC is excited to announce that it has won a 2025 Larry H. Lemon Quality in Construction Award for excellence in constructing an asphalt pavement using less than 50,000 tons of asphalt. The award was presented by the National Asphalt Pavement Association during the association’s annual winter meeting in Arizona.
Cadillac Asphalt received the award for its work on Crooks Road in Troy, Mich., part of the 2023 Preservation Overlay Program for the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC). The project involved milling down 1.5 inches of old pavement at the curb lines and seams, then applying a new 1.5‑inch layer of asphalt.
This project was completed amid unique challenges for Cadillac crews. During the project, RCOC received threats from an individual warning that construction must stop, or innocent lives would be put in danger. Cadillac partnered with the Troy Police Department to ensure everyone’s safety. The company closed Crooks Road and completed paving in a single day, with three paving crews working one behind the other to place 3,660 tons of asphalt over the five‑plus‑lane roadway. The resurfaced road reopened to traffic on Oct. 26 and is now providing a smoother, safer ride for the traveling public.
“This award reflects the dedication of every Cadillac Asphalt employee who contributed to the Crooks Road project. Our crews, partners, and the Troy Police Department worked together to ensure the job was completed safely and to the highest standards,” said Deven Rau, GM/VP of Cadillac Asphalt.
Pat Nelson, 2025 NAPA Chair said, “The Larry H. Lemon Award is a top achievement within the asphalt industry, reserved for the absolute highest-scoring projects in the nation under 50,000 tons. It represents a level of technical precision and material performance that is truly elite.”
